#1 Kaimu Bay
This charming vacation cottage is comfortable, quaint and built with love. Tile came from the old Parker Ranch Dairy. The windows have rippled glass from a century ago, saved from a cabin on the Kona Coast. The hand painted bathroom floor shows coral, rocks and Honu (turtles) swimming. Kaimu is an environment of contrast. Black lava, clean air, blue ocean and green foliage are host to mango, papaya, coconut, banana, pineapple and hibiscus. Your only neighbors, the Peleiholani's, manage the property and can make suggestions about activities that will make your vacation all you want it to be.
This comfortable home is across the street from a Black Sand Beach. In late 1990, the ongoing eruption of Kilauea's Kupaianaha vent covered the famous Black Sand Beach at Kaimu Bay. At the same time a new beach was created a short distance away. From Kaimu, if lava is flowing into the ocean, you may see a plume of steam rising high in the air as the Big Island grows bigger still. At night you may view lava descend the mountain. When not out enjoying all the island has to offer, relax at Kaimu with ping pong, bicycles, badmiton and croquet all provided.
Nearby Attractions The area has many parks. Pahoa is a 10 minute drive and has several places to eat. If you feel like the movies, a museum or the Panaewa Rain Forest Zoo, Hilo (the island's largest town) is 35 minutes away. At Kehena Beach the dolphin often visit and swim with the beach goers.

Dear Alan:
Concerning our stay at your house: we had a very good time and liked it a lot; we, and especially Max, enjoyed the neighbors and their activities; they (i.e., 8 adults) cooked the desert for the 1st birthday party (small:only 400 guests!) for some friend of a friend --took them 2 days, and lots of action, about 200 coconuts were opened.....Kimo and his wife are very nice and friendly and let Max participate in the cooking and earth pit oven preparation, animal feeding, etc. We also saw lava spraying out of Pu'u O'o right from the beach in front of the house; We also spent some very nice time (snorkeling!) at your friend's house, who was nice enough to invite us over and even fed us lunch. We have to write Bill a note and thank him once more for his hospitality. Max had a blast swimming in his natural pool; he would like to have a swimming pool with humuhumunukunukua'opua'as (sp?) in St. Louis now (we had fun discussing the "realization" of such a backyard project). The outside shower is really nice and we all used it a lot; I don't think we ever showered inside! So, we had a very good time during our whole vacation, and in your house specifically; we definitely would like to come back to Kaimu at some point.
Greetings, Brigitte
